Particles と and も

The particles と and も

と: “and” and “with”

と connects two nouns (“A and B”). It also shows who you do something with.

hon to pen o kaimashita.I bought a book and a pen.
tomodachi to Kyooto ni ikimashita.I went to Kyoto with a friend.
Careful

と only connects nouns. You can’t use it to join two sentences like English “and.”

More about も

In Lesson 2, も replaced は. It also replaces が and を. With other particles like に and で, put も after the particle.

koohii o nomimasu. koocha mo nomimasu.I drink coffee. I drink tea, too. (を → も)
neko ga imasu. inu mo imasu. There is a cat. There is a dog, too. (が → も)
Oosaka ni ikimashita. Kyooto ni mo ikimashita.I went to Osaka. I went to Kyoto, too. (に + も)
